It’s getting hot in here! Slap bang in the center of Brussels, Lafeh shatters the stereotype of sad falafel and restores late-night shawarma to its rightful glory. From noon to midnight, this hole-in-the-wall spot on a cobblestone street fires out carefully prepared, conscientious street food classics, crafted by a skilled team led by Ziyed Moncer (who used to work in digital marketing) and Youssef Assi (who also mucks in at Georges Baghdi Sar’s establishments), all to a lively house music playlist that makes the short wait fly by. From the sidewalk, gobble up a wrap rolled Beirut-style, choosing from: the falafel, with crispy chickpea balls as golden as a winter’s sun, or chicken or beef shawarma, juicy and tender beyond belief, with a smear of toum (creamy garlic sauce) that’ll leave you wanting more – both options come complete with tomatoes, pickled onion and fresh herbs. Vegetarians aren’t left out either, with a grilled halloumi wrap, and a side of fries, if you fancy. Still hungry? End on a high with an achta ice cream, with its delicate notes of pistachio and orange blossom. · Gordon Bleu
