Located in the Sainte-Catherine neighborhood since 1950, Champigros underwent a makeover and had a name change in 2024, becoming Champ, all thanks to former wine distributor, Ludovic Thysebaert. While suffix may have vanished, the ambitions certainly haven’t: funky, fiercely seasonal, top-quality products, all sourced with love. The interiors ooze rustic-modern charm, with vibrant vegetables displayed in the central stall and shelves neatly stocked with mouthwatering pantry goods, like Maison Godard terrines, crunchy Maison Marc cornichons, collectible tinned sardines, SWET hot sauces, Sainte Odile vinegars and Frederic Blondeel chocolates… As well as Cantillon beers, a sharp selection of natural wines and non-alcoholic options from the Bôtan distillery. In short, wide scope, spot-on taste. And let’s not forget the stars of the show: the mushrooms, available fresh in season or dried the rest of the year. Here, even the mushrooms are well-raised! · Pepi Pachov
THE HIDDEN GEM: When in season, asparagus from producer Stéphane Longuelune (around €30 per kilo) and dried porcini mushrooms from Maison Plantin (€13.80 per 100g).
