Ever since Sucrépice got itself a makeover (adieu to all the ugly shades of brown and stickers half peeling off the walls, bonjour to clean white tiling and an inviting bar), things are humming away over near Jussieu! Just as packed as ever, the discreet eatery is full of local students, spice lovers and Sichuan natives who come for big bowls of broth seasoned with red chilies, slurped up until they self-combust. Just choose your style of noodle (thick Chongqing-style noodles, glass noodles, sweet potato noodles, etc.), your meat (ground pork, beef tongue, pork trotters, spiced and dried tripe…) and your level of spiciness – there are five levels starting with “easy-peasy” (according the house), all the way to “nuclear!” And to put out the fire, a handful of Chinese pastries, including an incredible selection of sponge cakes (matcha-whipped cream, dried pork and white sesame…) and a lovely coconut moon cake. // Bérénice Delmy
