Looking to slow down? Slow delivers on that promise. Run by Laura Agneessens (ex-La Table du Boucher in Mons and Bistro Bisou in Namur), this immaculate little café with bright orange accents welcomes hungry epicureans who want nothing more than to curl up on a wooden banquette. From morning through afternoon, sip perfectly made coffees and matchas, or dig into a short but sweet menu that shouldn’t be scoffed at. First off, the no-nonsense breakfasts covers both the sweet (pastries, chocolate spread on toast, homemade granola) and savory bases (soft-boiled egg with ham, Morbier cheese and baguette soldiers with herb butter for the purists). As for lunch, the daily specials vanish fast: juicy homemade kefta; beautiful tartines crowned with whipped feta; fluffy smashed potatoes with perfect chimichurri; salmon ceviche with citrus fruits; and a carefully curated cheese selection from Kaas. Got room for dessert? The display counter tempts with an array of homemade goodies, like matcha brownies, raspberry marble cake or a slice of giant cookie. FEELING THIRSTY? Coffees (single or double espresso, iced, latte… €2.90 to €5.50) and matchas from Parlor (hot, cold, latte or tonic, €5.50 to €6.50). To fully embrace the slow life, there’s homemade iced tea and lemonade (€4.50), local beers (€4-€5) and a selection of wines from Pépite (Bertrand and Vincent Marchesseau, Les Vignerons d’Estézargues, €27-€35).
