Ice cream or wine ? At Folderol, there’s no need to choose! Jessica Yang and Robert Compagnon (the duo behind Rigmarole and Oobatz) have frozen time just long enough to recreate their delightfully dual-purpose hangout on the other side of Paris’ 11th arrondissement. On one side: it’s all about outrageously creamy seasonal sorbets and ice creams (like zesty strawberry, Ugandan vanilla, oolong tea or orange creamsicle), served in homemade cones or in a cup. On the other: a wine bar with a natural streak, pouring carefully chosen bottles (Domaine des Treize Lunes in Chartreuse, Es d’Aqui in Ariège…) best enjoyed perched at the counter, around a high-top table or on the wooden banquette, alongside Italian charcuterie, homemade focaccia, burratina, anchovies and olives. Then, just when you thought you’d finished, another scoop somehow is inevitable. Bonus: Folderol also makes seriously good ice cream cakes to order. · Tami Taylor
Ate: For a gloriously nostalgic throw-back, the silky peanut ice cream, a cooler, creamier take on peanut butter (€3.50 for one scoop, €6.50 for two).
