Everything is beautiful at Juni! While he originally thought about opening up shop in Armenia, where he first got his hands dirty with the locals, it’s on Rue Daguerre that Grégory Guerguerian ended up settling down. Welcome, therefore, to the only Armenian bakery in Paris (a wooden horseshoe-shaped counter, a giant central oven, attentive staff), where you order at the bar before digging in to these mouthwatering treats, like the lahmajoun – otherwise known as “juni.” Aka a very thin wheat galette with your choice of toppings: meat (beef and lamb), za’atar (thyme, sesame seeds, sumac), vegetables, three cheeses… Take it to go or devour it while seated on the small terrace, rolled up or served on a plate, alongside some very fresh labneh, muhammara (red pepper and walnut purée), along with moutabal, hummus or spicy yogurt… For dessert? An unusual Armenian version of king’s cake, or a classic baklava – which we’ll be testing during our next trip there! // Marcelle Claudepierre
THE HIDDEN GEM: Garlic, baby! A delicious garlic cream to dollop on your juni (€1.20).
