And Pok! – another coffee shop lands! Just minutes from the Marché des Lices, Pok plants its flags as a new bastion of Rennes cool, decked out with pool-blue tiles, dried flowers and a terrace basking in full UV glory. No cutting corners here – not on the beans (sourced from Breton micro-roaster Café 1802 based in Pontivy), nor on the bread. The house signature, plush, artisanal challah courtesy of Bun’s Baker. At lunchtime, the boss, Victor Grousset (ex-Café Ours and Chez les Garçons), sends out fresh sandwiches with properly joyful fillings, like the one with shredded roast chicken laced with pesto rosso, creamy tartar sauce, garlic and a flicker of mint, all tucked into that pillowy challah. Or the vegetarian knockout, with mature cheddar, roasted mushrooms, butternut squash dusted in dukkah (from Nomie spices), wilted spinach and tarragon mayo. To start – or sweeten the deal – there’s granola heaped with Breton fromage blanc, salted caramel, seasonal fruit, dark chocolate and a tumble of nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, oats, pumpkin). Plus a salted dark chocolate-hazelnut cookie or a cinnamon roll that means business. · Lasri Racha

FEELING THIRSTY? Alongside the coffee-shop classics, Alice Bertrand and Anna Boinot shake things up with a few inspired pours: tonka bean latte with homemade syrup, proper golden turmeric-ginger latte, vivid beetroot latte (all €4.80) and iced matcha latte with homemade plum marmalade (€5). Don’t miss the Breton-inspired salted caramel latte (€4.80) or the “zestpresso” – espresso lengthened with organic lemonade (€4.60), for a citrusy, caffeinated kitck to your Breton morning.

PRICE: Sandwiches €9.50, sweets €3.20 to €6, set menus €12 to €14.50, dish of the day €13.50.
