In their café-cum-fine foods shop with blue and grey tones (floral wallpaper, a vintage scale, shelves filled with jams and chocolate), now that they’re joined by Christelle, Aline and Anne-Lise (the original Pipelettes) might have time to pipeletter (gossip) for a few minutes after the morning rush or right before afternoon tea. But never at lunchtime, given the classy crowd that comes in for takeaway! And if the menu describes this place as a “diner,” don’t be fooled: this triplet isn’t messing around with the food. The proof can be found on their set menus that, in addition to a bowl of soup and a salad of the day, give you the choice of four mains. The day we went for lunch, we opted for: a tasty chilled cucumber and avocado soup seasoned with curry; peppers stuffed with a merguez and vegetable surprise served over a bed of rice; and a crunchy salad of lentils, cauliflower, apple and celery. For dessert? A majestic damson plum tartlet – or why not an Emkipop ice cream. It’s also worth noting that there’s a popular brunch on Saturdays with tartines and jams, homemade scones, fresh juice, boiled eggs, fromage blanc, granola, Iberian charcuterie, vegetarian tart, smoked Scottish salmon… // D.C.

FEELING THIRSTY? There’s zero alcohol, but there is a good fresh juice of the day (€5.90 for 250 ml) and 15 teas (€5 for a 400 ml teapot), including an excellent pu’er with humus and tonka notes.

PRICE: Set menu €14.90 to €18.90 (lunch), desserts €4-8, brunch €25.50 (Saturday, €17.50 for children).
